Using Asterisk In Your Home – The Setup

When setting up Asterisk for home use, you’ve got a million and a half ways to do it. If you want to take the easy way, Asterisk@Home is the way to go, thus the name. It provides a GUI that you can use, instead of having to write all your own code. However, if it were me, I like writing my own code. So that’s what I would do.

Now, for this kind of thing you have a few options.

  1. Use VOIP
  2. Use your existing Landline
  3. Turn your Landline into VOIP

Reminder Calls

This is something I thought you might all be interested in that was posted over at SineApps.

Ward Mundy has posted details of his Free Asterisk Telephone Reminder System:

Introducing Telephone Reminders 2.5: The Free Asterisk Telephone Reminder System

http://mundy.org/blog/index.php?p=117

Excerpt: Using nothing but a phone call, you can schedule reminders for the near or distant future, specify different numbers for the return calls, and customize a recorded message for each call. In short, it’s perfect for appointment reminders, birthday reminders, anniversary reminders, and anything else you want or need to remember.

Free Voicemail Box Contest Information

Ok, so here we go! Drum roll please! The first ten people who call on February 23rd at 12 noon (eastern time) will get a free Voicemail box. Soon I will be setting up a voicemail service with a toll free access number, but that won’t be free. It will be cheap… but not free. So, the number I have is toll free for this contest too by the way, I only have a US number though, so unless you want to call from overseas, I’m sorry I can’t include you with this. Alright, get on your horses and be ready to call!

10 Free Voicemail Boxes!

Ok, so I’m giving away 10 free Voicemail boxes soon. It will start up by the end of the week. I just have to finish getting everything set up. I’ll post a date and time for everyone to call tomorrow, and at that time I will release the phone number to call and place your application for the box. So Ready… Set… Wait a few days ;)

Asterisk Blog’s Personal Ads

Ok, so this isn’t really going to be all about personals… but I am looking for someone, someone special. I would like someone to help me run this website. To not only write content, but also to keep things running smoothly right alongside of me. This is a free job, not something I’m making any money from, all the money I’m making from ads (all 5 bucks since this site has been open ;) ) is going back into it to pay for the server. So I’m not asking for someone who wants to make money.

What I’m looking for is someone who knows about Asterisk, maybe not some pro fanatic, someone who’s willing to learn and just be cool about everything. I don’t really want a slave either… Obivously I’m here to write for those people who don’t want the jargon. I just want everything to make sense.

So if you want to write some good content, be heads up on Asterisk news and just have fun, email me at Chris (at) AsteriskBlog dot com and we’ll talk. Thanks guys!

The Dialplanner

Ok, so I found this AWESOME tool today. I think it might be what I use for writing my dial plans now. It’s wonderful. It’s called “The DialPlanner” and I am in love with it. Basically what it is, is a custom dialplan builder that you gives you quite god control over it, and makes it very simple. It’s written in Java and it’s online so you don’t have to download anything which is wonderful. I may see about mirroring it on this website as well. I really reccomend trying this out, but only if you know how to write the dialplan anyway, this, in my opinion, should not be a crutch, but it’s still awesome.

Sorry for the long wait…

Ok, so sorry for that long wait people. I just moved and had to get everything set back up. I’ve actually got Asterisk running on this beautiful computer that I’m on now. I’ve got it up and going on Ubuntu, which I have fallen in love with. All with the exception of the sudo command, ugh… but I beat that. Ok, so, back to articles!
